I probably should have turned the music off…

You’re house doesn’t need help, it needs an intervention!!

Wow! Looks even more stuff than our house. I’m still working on my Franciscan spirituality (Poverty) where stuff doesn’t interfere with my purpose in life.
God bless you, I gather this is the family homestead?
Peace

Yep. Family homestead. This is not my idea of living life - the clutter and craziness was inherited.

Dearest Theodoric,

I will pray for you. That is all.

Theodoric,
Do you have a time frame to get all of these renovations done? All I can say is WOW!

I want EVERYTHING done by Christmas, the bulk by the end of October.

D.

I am totally traumatized by this video! I always wondered what would happen someday when someone decided to go through and redo and sort EVERYTHING in that big house of yours!! I guess this is it… at least - this is it in your style of doing things, which… is always chaos, but it works for you… so hey! It’ll get done! Seems like you are making some headway and the the video brings back so many great memories from your house!! I have tried to call a few times in the past couple of weeks but never can get you! CALL ME SOMETIME… you know, when you get a few :) xx

Ps. This makes me smile, because EVERYHING in that house, is just…. soooooooo… your mum :) It is definitely time for some updating and “spring cleaning” though… I think you are doing great! What a MESS though… hahah

Best comment ever, Allison. It put a big smile on my face :) There’s definitely a lot of memories here, but this place, at least like it is, feels so much like an albatross around my neck (Yeah, my dad loved that phrase :).

There are two movies that have been on my mind recently… “Henry Poole is Here” and the final “Lord of the Rings” movie. In the first one, Henry Poole gets diagnosed with an untreatable disease. He’s pretty down about it (obviously), so he returns to where he grew up - to where he last remembered being happy. He tries to buy his childhood home, but the owners won’t sell it. Eventually he gets to go inside, but he doesn’t feel anything when he’s there. It wasn’t the place but the people that made the memories. It’s like that here, too. A lot of good memories: mom, dad, Justyna, and you too! But they’re just memories. If anything, being here, especially when this house is still “so my mother”, makes things sadder not happier. Maybe it’ll change when things are “made new”… I don’t know.

In the other movie, the last Lord of the Rings, Frodo returns to the Shire after the ring is destroyed. One of the Hobbits gets married and stays in the Shire, but Frodo’s unsettled. He’s changed so much along the way that he doesn’t feel like he belongs in his beloved Shire anymore… I kinda feel that way myself. I love this place - everything about this little island - but I can’t help but feel that so much has changed since I’ve been away, that I’ve changed so much, that I don’t belong here anymore. I pray and pray to decide where to be and I’m not getting any specific answers. But I do feel like my future is elsewhere. I think I’ll know soon and when God shows me I pray I’ll have the strength to go!!

Life’s interesting, eh? :)

Dear Theodoric,
I am praying for you! I have had the privilege of ‘healing’ my Grandparents home in Prince George. After they passed away, Mike and I purchased their house and totally renovated it. They had lived there for over fifty years and it took my parents and I many months to clear things out and make it ‘new’ again.

The house looked so great afterwards, just as yours will! You have great ideas and I know with much work it will all come together…I will pray that you will have help during your journey to make your family home yours. I have moved from my/grandparents home, and I do miss it because I grew up there; knowing the couple whom we sold it to and how much they loved it was helpful.

May God Bless you while you ‘heal’ your family home and make it yours; in the end no matter where you end up, the house will be enjoyed and well lived in.

Andrea

That was quite the response to my comment! I am glad I came back to read it!! I think you are going through the process of renewing your house to make it yours, while keeping the important things alive in it! I think you will figure out where you are “meant” to be and when you do, you won’t need to find the strength to go, because your path will naturally lead you there! Until then, just keep up the good work on the house and I think that as you make it more yours, while leaving enough behind to keep it the family home, you will find it becomes less of an albatross around our neck (I can soooo hear your dad saying that) and more of a … well.. I can’t think of what to call it, but a happy place :) Life is interesting.. and as much as it kills me to say this.. but that silly little singer girl, Miley Cyrus, has a song called the climb… and the words are actually really cool…. It’s all about the climb :)

Oh yes, big problems with Miley Cyrus but you’re all about Avril… Whatever!

That house has a very nice layout, sorry my profession is surfacing ;) I believe that you had tons of work but once it’s cleared out and your work all finished that house will look amazing. As for the garden, you let you future girl worry about that. One more point, as far as hardwood goes, take care with it, it scratches very easily for every silly little thing.

Will there be a video update? I’m really curious to see what you’ve done with the place. Don’t know if you’re finished with it yet, so I’ll wait patiently till you’re all done. For the wow factor, you know :D
